Solentmet Support Group (SSG) have been providing invaluable real-time weather information in Chichester Harbour and for local boat owners from their two stations located on the Camber beacon in Chichester Harbour and outside the Harbour Entrance at West Pole beacon. In the past WWSC has contributed to keeping these going.

Now after many years of service SSG are upgrading and future proofing the free to public data provided on their website. The current system transmits data using VHF radio and will in future take advantage of G4 & G5 cellular technology, while stored information is moving away from in-house servers based at the RNLI Lifeboat Station on Hayling Island to using the public cloud computing platform Microsoft Azure.

To assist with this transition the Chichester Harbour Federation (the organisation that represents all the boating organisations in the Harbour) have been pleased to donate £2,000 to ensure this service for the boating community continues.
