Oppie & Topper Club

Oppie & Topper Club information for 2024

These sessions which take place on weekends with suitable tides throughout the season are a bit different this year. We will still be running the individual sessions that provide a mix of training whilst having fun with friends. These are aimed at juniors who are already competent Stage 1 sailors. To this we're adding the opportunity for complete beginners to sign up for an RYA Stage 1 course that will be run over all 7 sessions.

Group 1: RYA Stage 1 course for complete beginners

6 places only for those that are new to sailing. We will run this over all 7 sessions planned for the season and so you'll need to commit to all of them when you sign up to Oppie & Topper Club (RYA Stage 1) - NB Bookings have now closed.

Group 2: Learn to race

This group is for more competent juniors and will follow the RYA start to race syllabus including race starts, tactics, using the 5 essentials (Sail trim, Boat trim, Balance, Dagger board, Course made good) to the best effect. Hopefully, this group will join Group 3 for some of the races. You book these sessions individually (see below).

Group 3: Racing

This group will have at least 2 races (3 ideally) each Oppie & Topper club session. All points will count to our Oppie and Topper club trophy which will be awarded at the conclusion of our sessions on the 4 ^th of August. Again you book these sessions individually (see below)

Volunteering

Parent volunteers will be needed to help on the rescue boats, so please sign up for a duty via the online Club Roster. Also be aware this is not a "drop and run" session for parents of young sailors. They will need to be helped with rigging and launching before parents leave and, as with all WWSC junior events, parents must commit to be able to return to the creek within 20 minutes if needed.

Need a Club Dinghy?

If you need to rent a Club SailQube or Topper for the session you'll have to book this separately (and we recommend doing this first). It's a private rental so you will need to be approved to do this.

If you're booking one of our individual O&T Club sessions just click on the appropriate date below. Bookings for the O&T Club (RYA Stage 1) have now closed.

You can stay in touch by joining the OTC WhatsApp Group here (for the regular O&T sessions) or joining the O&TC (RYA Stage 1) Group if your child will be doing the course we're running run across all 7 sessions.

Subject to demand, you can book right up to the Thursday before the event. This year you will need to pay before the event. If the event is cancelled due to the weather or if you notify us by email a minimum of 7 days in advance you will receive a refund. Below are the dates currently programmed:
