Regatta Week 2024
Regatta Week races and social events will take place from Monday to Friday (July 22 to July 26). This page provides all the details. If anyone has queries please email the WWSC Sailing Team.
The Racing
Races will be open to all boats in Classes 1 and 2 with competent juniors in Toppers and faster boats encouraged to take part. Sailors should only set sail if their abilities match the conditions on the day with parents confirming this by signing the race entry forms for children under 16.
Courses will tend to be somewhat longer and when possible, will take the fleet to less familiar parts of the Harbour to exploit 5 days when it's less busy than at weekends. If we lose a day's sailing due to weather Race officials may have to run more than one race per day to catch up. Do join the Regatta Week WhatsApp Group (see below) to get all the latest.
As well as the normal Series based on the regular handicaps we'll have a parallel set of results using fixed, personal handicaps determined by each boat and crew's past performance. We've provided more information on the approach and the personal handicaps for all those registered here. It should mean that every boat stands a chance of winning a prize, simply by improving on their past performance.
You can see the Sailing Instructions covering racing here. As was done last year, we'll be using these arrangements for communicating changes to courses, etc. when the Race Officer is already out on the water.
Please pre-register!
If you think you might want to race, even if it's just for one day, please pre-register here. We can then enter all your details on our race results software and pre-print the sign-on sheets. It really helps us run the event.
We are fortunate to have 3 experienced RIB drivers running our safety boats over all 5 days. Anyone who does a duty and is competing will be given "redress" so your results won't suffer.
You can see all the race times here.
The main results will be based on our standard WWSC handicaps. We will also show how boats performed using "Personal PYNs" - We will calculate and publish the personal PYN for all pre-registered boats a week or so before the regatta.
The Social Side
On most days we have programmed social events to allow members to get together after racing. These are open to all members not just the racers! Most only require you to turn up. The exceptions are:
- our "cycle to supper" at the Boat House Cafe on Monday July 22 where you will need to book a ticket as space is limited, and
- the Regatta Week Croquet on Tuesday July 23 at 6:30 pm.
Please check out our Handbook or online calendar to see what's planned.
WhatsApp Group
We've created a Regatta Week 2024 WhatsApp Group to keep everyone in touch throughout the Week. You'll find the link to join this here.
