Rusty Sailors 2024
Rusty Sailors Wanted
Maybe you cannot quite remember how to rig your boat or you are wondering whether it is all still in working order after the winter? Or are you feeling a little uncertain about how to read the conditions on the day? Maybe you are new to the area and would like some tips on using the Creek? Or have you only ventured to East Head and back and wonder what interesting areas lie beyond?
The Rusty Sailors sessions are just for you. They are open to adults who have sailed before and simply need a bit of assistance to get back on the water or find it more congenial to sail with others. They are also perfect for anyone who would benefit from an extra pair of hands at the start of the season and likes the idea there will be a Club RIB and instructor on hand if needed. So please do come along and let us help get you back to sailing.
There will be plenty of additional support from friendly volunteer members of the Club. You will find us there to answer your questions, to help with a check of your boat, to help you rig up and most importantly to get you out on the water - either in your own boat or one rented from the Club.
The sessions are not designed for juniors (for their activities please check out our Junior Sailing pages). However, any parent who would like to join our Rusty Sailors sessions with one of their kids as crew is very welcome to do so.
We have scheduled five sessions this year (just click on a date to make a booking):
You can sail in your own boat or use a Club dinghy (included with the ticket), either alone or with a partner. When booking you will be offered three different types of tickets so that you can choose accordingly. Tickets are priced at £20 per boat (in your own boat) or just a bit higher (where they include rental for a Club single or double-hander). This year we are asking you to pay at the time of booking. Provided you email us at least 7 days before the event you can cancel and get a refund. You will also get a refund if the event has to be cancelled due to weather, etc.
Just like last year, we will set up a Whatsapp group for those who sign up for sessions. Please contact Ivan Western or Chris Gorton if you want to be added to the group (for contact details see our online Members Directory). Please note: the WhatsApp Group is for informal communication among participants and cannot be used to book or cancel sessions. For this, you will need to use your online WWSC account or if necessary an email to the Club Secretary.
