WWSC is aspiring to become an RYA accredited training centre in 2017. This doesn't mean that we will be offering training on a commercial basis or non-members; and in most respects the shape of the programme we offer during the Sailing Season won't change.
The committee considers that there are three key advantages of gaining accreditation:
- It provides an external validation of our existing practice and the opportunity to demonstrate to our insurers, parents and stakeholders that we are operating safely and responsibly
- It will enable club Dinghy Instructors (DIs) to 'log hours' whilst working at the club, making it easier for them to re-validate their qualifications on expiry
- It will allow us to certificate participants' proficency and skills; something which is in increasing demand by parents, schools etc.
At this point our intention is to offer accredited training for junior members only; we have no plans to provide adult oriented courses such as RYA Powerboat Level 2 which are already easily accessed at neighbouring clubs.
