2020 Prizegiving and Winners List

Published 00:00 on 6 Dec 2020

Club Trophies, many dating back over many years, are awarded to event winners which they get to keep for a year. They are also presented with one of our special "WWSC Mugs" as a permanent memento. We also give mugs to those who were runners-up with the numbers dependent on the scale of turn-out in each particular event. After the formal business of our Zoom AGM was over, the Commodore conducted a virtual prizegiving during which he celebrated the achievements of each Trophy winner with an illustrated slide presentation covering the season. To see the slides look further down this page or click here.

The Keeley Shield

The culmination of the Prizegiving was the award of the Keeley Shield for achievement. The winner is traditionally decided by the Club's Sailing Team and is kept a closely guarded secret until the Prizegiving.

Guy Russell revealed that this year it was being awarded to Alys Turner who has been a shining example of the values the Club encourages in all its members. During 2020 Alys has on numerous occasion supported the Club - through volunteering as Safety Boat helm, instructing on our courses and leading an event at WW School, and through her overall enthusiasm for our on-the-water activities, amply illustrated by her crewing for Guy during Itchenor's 2000 Open Meeting. On top of this she has regularly attended Committee meetings as the Club's Junior Representative - worth an award on its own, as Guy remarked. Well done Alys! The many messages of congratulation sent to you during the Zoom meeting testify to how well-deserved this award was.
